South Australia is growing. By 2050, it will be home to an additional 670,000 people. Across the metropolitan area, there is a strong and growing need to get more people on to public transportation. Without investment, Adelaide will be stuck in traffic gridlock, buses will be overcrowded, and people will be unable to access the jobs and amenities they need.
People for Public Transport has developed a plan for the future of our city and state’s passenger transport infrastructure.
We believe that now is the time for investment, from the small stuff, like bus lanes, to the generational, like an underground city rail loop. Our plan is for building a better transportation system, from metropolitan Adeliade, to the Hills, and into the regions by focus on our state's top 5 transport needs:
1. Extending the Rail Network – connecting our urban area
2. More Buses, More Often – building a frequent network
3. Rebuilding our Lost Tram Network – supporting inner suburban density
4. Fare’s Fair – affordable commuting with 50 cent prices
5. Investing in Our Country Transport Network - rebuilding the Overland and fixing the coaches
These policies are informed by ideas sourced from infrastructure experts, interstate knowledge and our local communities. Our vision is simple: a public transport system that’s for everyone.
